The Trellis Year
Bearing Fruit through Godly Character, Vision, and Holistic Readiness
WHY The Trellis Program?
In a world where men are increasingly disengaged—1 in 7 working-age men are neither employed nor seeking work, and many are addicted to pornography and video games—there is an urgent need to reclaim a sense of godly purpose. The Trellis Program is designed to combat the growing delay in marriage, deferral of responsibility, and lack of spiritual leadership in men. Just as a trellis helps guide a plant to bear fruit in an organized and purposeful way, this program provides structure, support, and spiritual direction so young men can flourish. As Jesus says in John 15:4-5, “Remain in me, and you will bear much fruit,” and as Colossians 1:10 encourages us to “bear fruit in every good work,” the Trellis Program empowers men to grow into the leaders God has called them to be.
HOW?
-
Classroom Learning: Lectures by professionals and professors from various fields will integrate a biblical worldview into disciplines such as leadership, business and economics, American history and government, communications, global studies, and entrepreneurship.
-
Hands-on Training: Practical training in marketplace and trade skills, such as marketing, carpentry, and agriculture, will be combined with entrepreneurial lessons. Students will manage building projects, such as tiny homes, which will be sold, giving them practical experience in both business management and the trades.
-
Mentorship: Mentoring will be offered by JAMA program alumni, marketplace professionals, and pastors, with one-on-one guidance and peer accountability throughout the program.
OUTCOMES:
Graduates will leave with a holistic set of life skills—spiritual, relational, and professional. Equipped to take on leadership roles in their families, churches, and careers, participants will be recognized for their godly character and influence. In addition to developing their spiritual and practical abilities, participants will engage in real-world building projects. Graduates will be interview-ready, receive letters of recommendation, and stand out in their communities, prepared to serve and live with purpose and vision.
